Description
In the year 1327, in a wealthy Italian abbey, suspicions of heresy run rampant among the Franciscan monks. Brother William of Baskerville, a learned Franciscan friar and former inquisitor, arrives at the abbey on a delicate mission to mediate the growing conflict. However, his mission takes a sudden and dark turn when a series of bizarre deaths occur in the abbey, seven deaths in seven days, each more macabre than the last, leading to a pervasive sense of apocalyptic terror.
As Brother William delves into his investigation of the suspected heresy, the abbey becomes a place of intrigue and danger, overshadowing his original mission. He takes on the role of detective, using his formidable intellect, logic based on the works of Aristotle, the theology of Thomas Aquinas, and insights from the writings of Roger Bacon. His wit and curiosity sharpen his investigative skills, allowing him to decipher secret symbols, unravel coded manuscripts, and navigate the mysterious labyrinth of the abbey, where, as he notes, « the most interesting things happen at night. »
