Description
In a Cypriot taverna, forbidden love blossoms between Greek Cypriot Kostas and Turkish Cypriot Defne. A fig tree bears witness to their meetings, their disappearance during war, and Kostas’s return. Decades later, Kostas, now a botanist, returns searching for lost love. In London, Ada Kazantzakis tends to a Ficus carica tree, her only link to her family’s history and identity. Elif Shafak’s « The Island of Missing Trees » weaves a poignant tale of love, division, history, and eco-consciousness, exploring the intricacies of identity and belonging.
